After waiting a month and a half, I finally received my Mini 10 a couple of weeks ago. I get a pretty good deal, with the HD display, 6 cell battery, and Ubuntu. First thing I did was pull the hard drive and drop in a 64gb SSD
I had sitting around, then loaded Windows 7 Build 7100 on it. It loaded just fine, so I loaded up my other basic software on it.
It worked great, except for one thing; Windows Media Player would not play files. I'd get tearing on the screen, the best I can describe it. If I opened Win Media Center, I'd get intermittent static in the upper left quadrant of the screen. VLC Media Player worked just fine, however. Searching for a solution led me to the forum here.
This weekend I loaded Ubuntu on it, but just wasn't happy with it. So I reformatted, reloaded W7, and checked things out. Seems the automatic update didn't get the latest graphics driver (but would tell me it was up to date), so I did a manual update to ver 220.127.116.115. WMP worked fine now, so I proceeded to load up all of my other software on it.
A little while later, I tried to play a .wmp file, and I was getting the same old problem. I checked to see if the right driver was still loaded up, it still was. I decided I must have loaded something that is messing it up, so I did a system restore to earlier in the day. Things worked OK again, so I've been checking it out every time I add something. I've added everything I did before, but no problem as of yet.
Has anyone else seen this problem? Though things are working good right now, I'd still like to know what caused it. The software I've loaded is:
Firefox 3.5 w/google toolbar
Avast Home Edition
Advanced System Care 3
Adobe Flash and Acrobat Reader
