Unfortunately, when the mac SL usb didn't boot form any port, I figured it was a failed job and zapped it with yet another macosdvd.img (the pc method). I *could* boot from my W7 DVD and kill all volumes - do you think this might make a difference? I also have a 16gb shdc card that I could try and put the macosdvd.img onto and boot from - as "removeable media" is one of the f12 options ... But I just feel there's something obvious here I'm missing ... Are we sure the SL install DVD upgrade (with picture of a snow leopard on the front) is fine? Just can't believe that a) the various USBs I've tried are all dodgy or b) there's a hw fault. All good fun :-) Sword Sword |

I agree the problem is not a USB stick one; you've eliminated that variable. I still suspect a corrupt bootloader is causing problems from the hard disk. If that is the case, erasing and reformatting the drive will fix it. But if I'm wrong, you lose your current W7 install. If you still have access to a Mac, I would first try to get back to a bootable SL disk using a Mac and NBM. I would then confirm this disk can boot another laptop. Then I would start from scratch. This sounds very similar to the problem inverted2000 was having...a repartition solved it. See my conversation with him on pages 5 and 6 of comments. (leaving work--further replies today may be delayed) |

| This is geat, I think that I've got both fully running. My only problem is I don't know how to test Windows 7 now (completed all the steps.) OS X boots without a screen letting me decide what OS I want to go onto. How do I enable this? |

I'll add a warning about this to the guide, since you're the second person to ask this question. Enjoy your hackintosh! |

| When Chameleon starts up, hit CTRL and it will still let you chose...just be quick! |

| Okay, I got there!!!!! :-) :-) :-) Many thanks! Who knows why or how - but in the end, it worked with the small boot usb (from the PC method) and the mac copied larger install usb stick. Yes, I've run netbookmaker. And the mac creation of the usb stick took over 6 hours to copy! Anyway - all okay now and the 10v is a lovely dual boot hackintosh. But I'm curious as to why the osx startup takes quit so long - its a good couple of minutes - any clues? Thanks again for all help, Sword |

The OSX startup is slow on the 10v. And there are a few things you can do to speed it up--see the list of post-install fixes I link to in Phase 7 for some ideas (deleting the hibernate image and reducing the Chameleon bootloader delay help a bit). But when I compare boot times of my 10v to that of my MacBookAir, they are really similar. The 10v may be 15 or so seconds longer. I think the key bottlenecks here are hard disk speed and processor speed, which are really slow on both devices. The front side bus on the Air is a bit faster (800 mhz vs 533 on the 10v). I use sleep in both instead of rebooting. This eats up battery life, but the systems boot instantaneously. Enjoy your hackintosh! -virusdoc |

| Thanks again virusdoc - there's NO way I could have done this without you and the guys you've referenced. I think my osx install disk must have had errors or something - cos I tried it on several different macs - one estimated 15 days, lol. I tried removing the hibernate thing - but the sudo utility wanted a password and my account has no password - but simply hitting return gave a "failed password attempt" so I may have to set myself a password after all. Tomorrow I plan to download and install the iphone sdk and start having some REAL fun. All the best - and thanks again! Sword |

Time to full desktop function, as judged by Menu bar completely loaded (including iStat Menus), mouse function, and Dock responsive: Macbook Air: 1 min 45 sec 10v: 1 min 20 sec Not too shabby performance from the 10v, especially considering the 10v takes 5 seconds to countdown in Chameleon before defaulting to the SL partition! And since I haven't deleted my old hibernate image, there is a 1-2 second delay there as well. AND the 10v has a slower front side bus. The 10v does a damn good job loading OSX! -virusdoc |
