Default Mobile Broadband is not pre-wired or pre-socketed - 05-03-2012, 09:40 PM

I bought this tablet with the hopes of sharing a Dell Verizon (5720) card between these devices. Last week, I had the opportunity to open the case (for the first time) to see where the WWAN port was. Nope. No port. No wires. No nothing.

So after doing my homework, it appears that most of these do not come pre-configured. The worst part is that the motherboard doesn't have the socket, meaning, need to replace the motherboard.

I spoke with Dell with regards to parts and costs.

The motherboard that shipped with mine (WLAN and Debug Port) is:

70XPP

The motherboard I need (WLAN, WWAN, and Debug) is:

38RJ1

The new motherboard is around $599 or so. Makes me mad.

In addition to this, you need to get the middle sub-frame replacement that has the cabling (pre-wired) for the WWAN port. The part number for this is:

32C34

I have a wiring subframe coming in as I found only one on Ebay. I will be re-selling my other subframe (or keeping it for parts).

I have bought full in on this tablet and it's great. Windows 8 Consumer Preview with the N-Trig drivers works well.
