That tab is strictly to make it easier to disconnect the little cable. The cable still works without it, but it will be harder to pull it loose next time.

I thought it is meant for firmly securing the flat cable connector on the back of LCD screen, so it won't come off easy.

Thanks for your tip on the part number. "The glossy screen - RKDY3" I think it is the same as "RK1FG".

Heading to OSX discussions to ask for help. Getting the "You need to restart your Computer" in 5 languages (Immediately after I get an apple logo). Also I will try post pictures.

So far I am happy with my purchase.

I run 10.6.4 on my 2100, and the only glitches are no sleep, external VGA mirror doesn't work, and the screen is blank when OS X arrives at the desktop. I get around that by having a sleep corner set up so it wakes the screen when I (blindly) mouse to that corner and back out.

I discovered I was actually running the latest Windows display driver from Intel for the 945 Express chip rather than the Dell sanctioned driver. I downgraded to the Dell driver and Aero perked right up. I'm pleased as punch now.

Perhaps off topic, but since I've had no success updating beyond 10.6.2 I'm hoping you could help me figure it out. My 2100 has 2gb ram, bluetooth, rebranded broadcomm, and if I can get the update sorted out I'll pop in the HD panel (1366x768). Otherwise, it goes in the 10v (not my preference!).

The HD panel is not going to work in your 10v, the connector is slightly different (though it will appear to fit), so you won't get the higher resolution.

If you are running 10.6.2 you should be able to go to 10.6.7 with relative ease by using the specific NBI 20100616212351. Make sure you run the NBI immediately after applying the 10.6.7 Combo Update and before you restart! The combo update alters some of the kexts and you'll get a kernel panic if you don't run NBI before rebooting.

I have also managed to solve the externel VGA mirroring bug, so the only thing that's really missing is sleep, a feature I can live without since OS X boots so quickly on the 2100.

Let me know if you need any more assistance with specific problems. Once you're at 10.6.7 you should also be able to update to 10.6.8. I would not recommend doing the 10.6.8 combo update directly from 10.6.2. There's something that it wants from 10.6.7 that doesn't exist in 10.6.2, and I haven't nailed down just what it is.

Well, that makes part of the decision easier! The only thing keeping me from updating to 10.6.7 is that I don't have NBI 351 for the 2100 - any idea where I could get a copy?

It's been a long time before I resurrected my 2100 with 1366x768 screen. I finally WAS able to load OSX on it after almost a year of trying. .. But VGA has to be connected and remove before it boot nicely.
