Default Getting rid of the dell bloatware? - 04-19-2011, 08:19 AM

I am planning on doing a clean re-install shortly. Before I do that i want to see how smoothly I can get the Duo running just by getting removing as much of Dells bloatware as possible.

Looking through programs and features in the Control Panel. This is the list of programs that I am planning on removing:

Dell Duo Stage
Dell Getting Started guide
Dell MusicStage
Dell Photostage
Dell Support Centre
Dell Videostage
Dell Webcam Central
Bing Maps 3D (what is this?)
Cyberlink Youpaint

I have already removed McCafee!

Would anyone advise against removing any of these programs? do any of them reduce the functionality of the Duo?

e.g If I remove the webcam central will the webcam work?

Is there anything to add to the list?

e.g should I add Dell Datasafe Local Backup & Dell Datasafe Local Backup- Support Software?

Personally, I don't utilize any of the things you listed on my Duo.
I run a clean setup that doesn't change when I dock.
I have a mouse and keyboard attached to a bluetooth dongle in one of the rear USB ports that kicks in when I dock mine, so I don't want the interface to change.

The webcam itself will work fine without webcam central. It doesn't depend on it, but the app gives some additional features that might be useful/fun if you utilize the webcam a lot.

I kept DuoStage because I use the docking station to play music and I didn't want to run the risk of some sort of sync issue

I got rid of all the rest, but just short of a clean install, which I abhor doing on Dell's in general because their board drivers are sometimes funky. Most people on here clean-kitted it and were very successful, however...The Webcam software, McAfee, anything even vaguely related to Bing...these are all dogs...can them. The DataSafe and the Backup Sync software that came installed are horrid - don't use them. Get a cleaner backup tool...
