Default 11Z crash after 8gb memory upgrade - 05-24-2012, 11:26 PM

I have the 11z with the i3 CPU, with 2GB ram and window7 64bit for about 2 months. Just upgraded to two new 4GB PNY DDR3 ram P/N MN4096SD3-1333

Once awhile the 11z will crash, and go to the blue screen about the window is shutting it down...... then it will reboot itself

Any suggestion on what is the problem?

Did i get the correct memory for the 11z?

thanks

I got the same Dell 11z with the i3 CPU. I upgraded by adding an additional 4GB chip for a total of 6GB. You got the right memory because if they were wrong, Windows would not boot up or get past the BIOS/POST.

Does BIOS recognize the full 8GB? Does Windows 7 recognize full 8GB? It sounds like you have bad memory, maybe just one of the two 4GB chips is defective. You can try swapping them on the slots (takes care of re-seating them as well) or what I would do is take out one of the chips and run with 4GB for some time to see if you have problems. They have software to check the memory also.

No software changes of any kind?

Good luck in solving the problem.

Try using Memtest - you'll need to create a CD and boot from it:
