Default Dedicate memory to video? - 01-22-2011, 08:16 PM

Is there any benefit to dedicating more memory to video in the BIOS settings? I have the i3 11z with the Intel HM57 chipset using built in Intel HD graphics.

Apparently, it has 64mb of dedicated video memory, but will dynamically share up to 1.7gb of memory for video. I currently have 8gb of memory installed, so I have some to spare on a full time basis.

1. Is there any reason to dedicate memory, if the computer will automatically take what it needs?

2. If yes, when and where would I notice any performance gains in video? I don't game, but will watch movies and videos.

Video playback takes a trivial amount of video RAM. The only time you need large amounts of video RAM is when using a 3D program (usually gaming).
