Smile Upgrading the chipset on the 11Z - 07-05-2010, 09:03 AM

From reading the forum over and over the past month and referring to multiple computer techs I am still lost if not confused on the issue of the possibility of upgrading the chip to the SU4100 Dual core.

I bought my 11Z the first week it came out back in 2009, so currently I have the Intel® Celeron™ 743. Being the first 11z's it could also be the reason why i can only run Windows 7 32 bit from Dell as part of their upgrade program. I unfortunately don't have 64 bit.

Anyways, the real issue. Since the chip is on a separate daughter board, can i please get a definite answer from everyone if it is possible to upgrade the chip and step by step on how to achieve this?

Where would you buy a new daughterboard from with a dual core cpu? It would be better just to buy a new laptop with the dual core cpu (from the Outlet) and sell your old one.

Yea, I'm in the same boat you are. I've done a ton of research and came to the conclusion that selling your current netbook and getting a new one would be the way to go.

My first 11z had the 723 chip, not the 743. I bought mine the first week also. That was the only CPU available at release, so you probably have that one. I sold it and bought a dual core from the outlet for $50 more. Well worth the upgrade. You can run 64 bit. The upgrade is for 32 bit, but if you do a clean install, you can use that key for 32 or 64 bit. I don't know if the disk has both versions on it, but the Microsoft package comes with both disks. You may be able to borrow a 64 bit disk from someone and do the clean install.
