Default New touchpad for 11z - 05-25-2010, 08:42 PM

I've just received a new 11z from the UK Dell Outlet and it came with the new touchpad. If anyone has any questions let me know.

The touchpad is similar to that on the Inspiron 1545 where it is an indentation on the palmrest rather than being a separate pad. It is quite smooth to the touch compared with the older touchpad. The buttons are OK but feel a little cheap but it is very easy now to do proper right clicks and to click and drag. You lose some of the vertical space for moving around so it is worth increasing the speed of the pointer so you can move more easily around the screen in one go. It continues to support multi-touch like the previous touchpad.

- Simon.

Did yours also come with the green sticker beside it showing the features of the 11z?

On mine they left 'floating touchpad' on! Oops!

On that sticker they boast the awesome new feature of 'floating touch-pad' - yet our new machines do not have the floating touch-pad, because it was withdrawn for being crap.

I just thought it was funny to see it as a 'feature' when it was removed for being 'rubbish'.

Has anyone got three finger swipe working with Chrome? It works fine in IE8 so I can go back and forwards a page but nothing happens in Chrome.

I'd like to know if there is a part number associated with the new touchpad as I'd like to order one for my 11z.

Just to confirm the old and new touchpads are completely interchangeable - I have swapped the two touchpads between my old and new 11z laptops. You will need to uninstall the old touchpad software (Synaptics or Elan) and then install the software for the new touchpad and reboot. No problems so far - both working well.

Just got off the phone with Dell Parts. I asked for the part number for the new style touchpad. I was told the part number is W01R0 and the price is $25.99. Can anyone confirm this is the right part number for the NEW touchpad with dedicated buttons? I'd hate to order it to have it be the same one I already have. I don't see this part number anywhere when looking at my original configuration, so it may be right...

Thats what I figured, damn Dell parts people are only right about 11% of the time.

Well, I took the plunge and ordered the W01R0 part from Dell today. My Dell Gold Team insists it is the right part. The description for the part is "Assembly,Chassis,Palmrest,Plastic,1110", so I'm hoping it is the right part. I should receive it in a few days, so I will update my post when I receive it.
