I've tried a couple of (true PCIe) mini PCIe cards in that slot and they don't work, so I was guessing it was USB over mini PCIe only. Pins 36/38 are USB, so I was assuming they'd be there. Now I don't know what to think...Maybe the Gobi WWAN cards use a special pin out? I also just might not know what I'm doing. ![]() ![]() |

My guess is that the slot have the USB and SMB buses connected (most laptop's WWAN port don't have the PCIe bus connected, as I've had read). What type of cards have you tested? I think figuring out the reserved connections is a dificult and potentially risky task. Probably they are useless to the end user, but I might be wrong. I've bought my 11z from Chile, and it doesn't have the PCIe and SIM connectors soldered on board (neither the antenna connection). I'm looking forward to integrate a USB WWAN module I have, but I'll would like to use the battery compartment accesible SIM slot, so I don't need to remove the keyboard to plce the SIM. Or maybe I'll buy a PCIe module. Anyone know where can I find the missing SIM slot? |

I'm Level-2 SMT qualified, so it wouldn't be a problem to do myself... Though I'm pretty sure Dell will have left off all manner of components required to make it actually work. Chris... |

I know about multilayer PCB's. just don't know how to tell whether I'm looking at one. The WLAN slot USB lines are very easy to see. Thought WWAN would be the same. I have a pic of the SIM card. I'll post it in the next couple of days. Google jkkmobile. That guy is the master of adding SIM card slots. | |
