Talking Dell FastAccess Webcam Facial Recognition - 02-09-2010, 04:36 AM

I was checking out the driver support page today to see if there were any updates and notices new listing under Application in the category of Facial Recognition. It apparently is something called FastAccess with allows you to login to your system using facial recognition via the webcam. The one listed in my support page is an update only and require a preinstalled version.

I was wondering if any knows where I can get my hands on the application package so I can test this out. I bought my 11z when it first came out and so this must be a new addition and I don't see why it won't be it compatible.

Thanks!

I also saw this on the site but I'm a bit hesitant of installing it. I hope someone could tell us if this one works or really a good feature.

Was able to track down the installer on a share website. It works surprisingly well and doesn't slow down the login time. Make sure to run the installer and then the update engine or dell update especially if you're running windows 7. Nifty feature.

It came with my Studio XPS 13. Pretty nifty overall, but I haven't bothered to reinstall it for a couple of reinstalls now. It does work really well, although I'm clueless on the Mini.

Very cool - excellent use of the webcam on my 11z. Takes a few pictures to train it. After installing the Dell update (version 2.4.7) it then downloaded another update for version 2.4.43. The software also worked on my XPS M1330 apart from an error dialog on first login and also the webcam LED remains lit unlike on the 11z where it turns off after login. I'm going to try my Mini 10v next...

EDIT: Works fine with the Mini 10v - had an issue with resuming from sleep but installing the latest 2.4.43 seems to be stable now.

I logged into the Dell "My Account" and I was able to download some different webcam stuff there. I'll let you know if it's the Fastaccess or not after I install it.
