Default How fast is your 11z? - 10-09-2009, 01:16 AM

I have to ask: how fast is the 11z? I've ordered one with the dual core pentium, but haven't decided if it's worth it to spend almost 700 on a "netbook." The one I ordered has 2 gigs of ram, and the wifi-n and bluetooth. Should I return it and just buy the local costco's 11.6 version of the acer aspire one for 279? same screen, etc. but with an atom z. Your thoughts? One other note: I currently have a Macbook Pro and can install OS X on the aspire one ao751h (if it's compatible: I haven't researched this).

I can't seem to find any benchmarks on that dual core pentium su4100. I need this mainly for IT field work, but it does have to have an N wifi card (as I test systems for this sometimes), and the HDMI port helps with flat panel tv repairs from time to time. Also, the bluetooth is to overcome what I hear is an atrocious trackpad (by using a mouse).

Did I make the right move ordering this? It's due to arrive in 2 weeks, and there's plenty of time to cancel that.

I had an Atom... returned it, and I am getting an 11z. The speed just wasnt there for me.

Trackpad is the same as the 10v I returned. I liked it. The 11z has multi touch (I think).

I think you will like it.

I had the FastTrack 11z with the 1.2GHz Celeron, and I sent it back to get the Pentium SU4100. This is will be my primary personal laptop. I was excited about how fast the single core Celeron was, but like you, I'm in IT and tend to use my computers beyond the average home user. I also have an Atom N270 in my MSI Wind U100 and it runs OS X quite well, but not enough for me as a primary notebook. You made an excellent choice. If the Celeron 1.2 was quick, the Pentium will work especially well. Windows 7 + 2 threads + 4500MHD = a nice notebook.

I just checked the Notebookcheck.net benchmark list, and the Z530 got spanked by the SU4100.

Here are some pics of the benchmarks for the SU4100 and the Z530 (sorry for the long pics):

First, the Z530

And the SU4100

FYI, the SuperPI numbers are the time in seconds it takes to calculate PI to the number of digits specified.

It seems you have ordered the identical specs I just recieved - to be honest i think its great (and my desktop is a quad core, 4gig ram machine) it loads very quickly, installs quickly.

I have installed Win 7 though and would recommend this if you don't require the dell installed software (most of which is not necessary)

ps - the Windows 7 Ratings are as follows:

CPU: 4.1
RAM: 5.5
Graphics: 3.2
Gaming Graphics: 3.2
HDD: 5.5

Alright! I finally received my 11z this Friday and I'm loving it - the screen is really crisp, I like the touchpad, it's faster than expected and overall, it seems to be a great machine so far!

However, I'll be trying to set Windows 7 on it once I can get my friend to help me install it, since I heard it's a hassle on Dell computers for some reason. Is there anything I should think about when trying to make it as fast as possible when installing or after installing W7? I know of defraggler and ccleaner and have downloaded them already, just to try them out on Vista Basic. I read somewhere about someone lowering the amount of processors and the amount of CPU used (or something in that direction), and that doing that helps speed the computer up.

Thanks in advance!

windows 7 is a snap to install on the 11z. there's a thread in the windows 7 forum about installing it from a usb drive, easy as pie.
