Default 11Z Touchpad review - 09-29-2009, 10:33 PM

Hi

I'm look at buying the 11Z but have read reviews stating the touchpad is rubbish.

Can anyone tell me how they are findings the touchpad, is it really that bad?
Can anyone confirm its working ok with Window 7 too.

Cheers
Jason

Touchpad is one of the best and most intuitive touchpads I have ever used. Takes a little to get used to it (maybe a days use) but once you get good with it, you'll never go back to another.

I have it working on Win 7 64-bit and others have said it works fine on 32-bit.

Thanks for the quick response

I had a gut feeling the reviewer may have jumped the gun a little and like all new things you need to give it a little patience and get used to it first.

Anyone else?

Cheers

Jason

I'm loving it too, if for nothing else than 2-finger scrolling. I'm not big on 3- and 4-finger gestures, but overall I'm really pleased.

Cheers,
Charlie

I didn't use the extra features at all for the first few days of owning my 11z. Then I came upon the "Multi-Touch Gestures Demo" and it explained how to use the touch pad's extra features. After watching that and practicing a little during some web surfing, I'm off and running using all of the features and I love it. This is my first laptop so I have nothing to compare it to, but now after using the features for a week, I can't imagine having a laptop without them.

@seant2h, are you running Windows 7? I don't remember seeing the touchpad drivers for 7 on Dell's site. If this is already posted elsewhere - I missed it, but is there a way to get the multitouch working on 7?

Cheers,
Charlie

Any Vista drivers will work with Win 7, so just go to the dell site and get the vista drivers. If you are running 64-bit Win 7, you're gonna have to use some other drivers. I am running 64-bit and found drivers for it. Here's the post:

Nope, I'm still on Vista.

Excuse me and my newbie question, but how is everyone running Windows 7 when it hasn't come out yet. I know the IT guys at my work are testing the beta versions, so did everyone just install those beta versions? Will those beta versions stop working when the offical release comes out?

I have a technet account so I get copies of windows 7 early. It's the Release to Manufactors (RTM) version so it's what you will get once it officially releases this month. The RTM is what they give Dell, HP, etc. ahead of time so they can load them up with all their software and get it ready so when it officially releases, they can offer Win 7 on that exact date.

Beta versions stop working sometime next year I think.

I picked mine up through MSDNAA, $30 for students. A lot of people are using the release candidate, it was pretty easy to get a hold of via the Microsoft website. Oh and let's not forget the pirates
