Default Help choosing the right mini - 05-03-2009, 03:24 AM

Right now I am looking for a mini to take with me while I travel and go other places around town. I have simple needs, and want your suggestions for a mini setup that would best suit me. I need for under $450- Netbook, Slip Case, Case, Disk drive, and maybe a mouse!
It needs to be able to be used for
Typing Notes
MS Word
MS Excel
iTunes
Movies
Music
IM
Myspace
Internet browsing
Light Gaming

It needs to have a battery about 4-5 hours without wifi
It needs to have a big enough screen to watch a movie
It needs to have a big enough HDD to accommodate for my multimedia stuff
It needs to perform well enough to handle small games like N WAy of the Ninja and original Call of Duty

I think the biggest problem will be the gaming and movies. If it's not flash video you might be OK. I get 4 hours from my mini 9 and ubuntu, but I'm not sure about xp. You can get 8 cell batteries for the mini9 from Ebay for the mini 9.

I viewed HD movies (Xvid encoded) on my Mini 9 without a hiccup.

It's pretty hard typing notes on it, well not much, but since the keyboard size is reduced it's more likely that you're going to make a mistake while typing. Also, since your planning on putting your multimedia stuff on it, i guess that rules out the Mini 9 and possibly 12, because their hard drives probably won't be big enough for your needs. I think the 10 would be a good choice due to its 160gb HDD, bigger keyboard, and an option to add a bigger battery. The only limitation i can think of would be the 1gb of max ram on the 10, and i heard that the touchpad is kinda finicky.

If you don't want to Hackintosh it, then the Asus 1000HE is the netbook of choice these days. It has a 10" 1024x600 screen, it's expandable to 2GB of RAM, it comes with a 160GB HD, and it features a 8700mAh battery so it gets up to 8 hours of runtime.

Im considering the Mini 10 from the outlet, or going to best buy or somewhere else and buyign that new 10 inch acer or the Samsung NC10. But I really like dell computers, and the pricce is right, $250... What would be better:
Dell Mini 10
Samsung NC10
Asus Eee PC
Acer 10 Mini
The new MSI Wind

I was thinking the dell because of teh look and stuff and have had good luck with dell computers.
