Default Loose screw? - 04-18-2009, 02:58 PM

Hello there,

A couple of weeks ago I've received my Dell Mini 9 and everything's working fine with Mac OS X thanks to the guides I found here :-)

Unfortunately, a screw seems to be loose, but I can't always hear it rattling when I shake the netbook.
It's just sometimes and even though it's not affecting the usability, it still kind of bothers me.
And then it could potentially damage the mainboard and what not.

Now I don't know if I should just live with it or call Dell and ask for a replacement.
Since I'm after the 2 week return period, I wonder if I'd even have chances to get a replacement.
OTOH I've already spent some time and set everything up so I'd have to go back to square one.

What would you suggest?

Grab the manual, disassemble the part of the Mini where you think it's loose, and locate it.

I thought I had a loose screw too; however, it turns out the clips that lock the battery into place shake around a little bit. My money says that is what you're hearing. Let me know if that's it!

Cowchip, you're referring to the regular battery, not the bios battery, right?

Well, it's not a screw, it's the bios battery.
The sound always came from the lower left corner, near the card reader.
I opened the module cover and could even move the coin cell battery with a screwdriver.
Obviously the battery is connected to the connector (only).
Hello Dell QC?
Is that normal? I'd expect it to snap in somehow.

I didn't disassemble the whole body to get to the bios battery yet. I'm too afraid to damage anything.
But still it's kind of annoying.
I guess I'll call customer support tomorrow.

I was referring to the two little plastic bars on either side of the battery case, on the outer shell of the laptop. I guess those are not the source of your noise.
