Default iMac Ram - 04-08-2009, 12:18 AM

I just upgraded my ram on my iMac and noticed that the ram I removed matched the specs of the ram I was going to buy off of crucial for my mini9. The ram I removed reads: 1GB 2RX16 PC2-6400S-666-12-A0 (NEXT LINE)1GB, DDR2, 800, CL6. Can I use this for my mini9?

What model iMac do you have? Looking at Crucial, it appears the specs for the Mini 9 RAM are identical to that for the iMac, at least the model I found.

This is for an Apple iMac 2.8 GHz Intel Core Duo (24 Inch - 800 MHz)
CT817148

* Module Size: 2GB
* Package: 200-pin SODIMM
* Feature: DDR2 PC2-6400
* Specs: DDR2 PC2-6400 • CL=6 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR2-800 • 1.8V • 256Meg x 64

This is for the Mini 9:
CT897995

* Module Size: 2GB
* Package: 200-pin SODIMM
* Feature: DDR2 PC2-6400
* Specs: DDR2 PC2-6400 • CL=6 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR2-800 • 1.8V • 256Meg x 64

Same specs, appear to be the same size, and the same price. I'm not absolutely certain but the only difference here appears to be the Catalog #.

I have the model you listed. Is there any chance that installing incorrect RAM could damage my mini? It's like two hours old ;-)

As for damaging your Mini, there's little chance of that unless you really try to force in the RAM. The RAM can only go in one orientation, match up the notch on the RAM to the peg in the memory slot. Insert the RAM at an angle (~45 degrees), and then push it down until it's caught by the the little springy things

If the RAM doesn't fit at all, then it's the wrong kind. But 200pin DDR2 SODIMMs are what most contemporary laptops and micro-desktops use.
