Default Heyyyy. - 04-02-2009, 06:51 PM

Just got a Mini off of Dell's website after reading that it:
-was extremely quiet
-has no fan.
I have an Aspire One, and was loving it, but I couldn't take notes in class because it buzzes quite loudly with the fan. Err.
So. Yeah. First post. I'm going to go see what the extended batteries do to the portability of the machine now, and how well adding SDHC cards works [I'm going to be using an 8GB one for my music]. I have a 4 gig SSD [+ Ubuntu! It was $170! I'm cheap!], so it might get a bit dodgy if the SDHC reading isn't good.

Received lowest quality mini 9 with 512 megs RAM, 4 GB SSD. Additions:
-4 GB SSD [2 GB SD Card: getting 16 GB SDHC]
Sold for $180 so I could buy Mini 10, XP/Ubuntu, 160GB HD, 1GB RAM, 1366x768 screen, 6-cell for $260.
[Extra screen space IS AMAZING, as is having a working keyboard]

If you want speed with your ssd go for runcore but be prepared for waiting a long time if you get them from mdd or if you want to get it faster you can get it for a little bit more money.

As for the sdhc I'm using a 16gb to store files and it's ok, no complains.

Extended bateries: you can get them at ebay or amazon (there is a thread about them) but they aren't from Dell so you have to get used to some led blinking I guess depending on your bios.

I'm using SDHC for my music (my girlfriend calls my Mini the world's largest MP3 player ever) and have no problem with the speed. I also run video off the SDHC, and, again, no problem. I haven't tried to do high definition video, though.

The mini is quiet (how could it not be, no moving parts), pretty cool if it gets decent circulation, and has handled everything I've asked it to so far without complaint. You'll probably be happy with it.
