Default Sound through HDMI? - 03-28-2009, 05:20 PM

Got me a new dell mini today. The red inspiron mini. I'm assuming it's the 12. Wondering what needs done to output sound to HDMI when it's connected to the TV. Thanks.

You must have the Mini10 since the 12 has no HDMI...have you installed the sound driver for your netbook?

Ah. It is the ten. Well the soundcard drivers seem to be working for the internal speakers, yeah, do I need another for the HDMI? I wasn't aware if I do. Still new to HDMI really.

I'm assuming you have it hooked up to a TV. On my Sharp, there's an option to turn the sound on/off in HDMI (to run it through analog RCA instead) so you might want to check your settings.

If you have it hooked up to a monitor, be aware that many computer monitors don't have built in speakers.

Yeah. Was a TV. Samsung 32". Also it didn't quite allign itself correctly with the tv oddly.

try right clicking on your speaker icon in the taskbar. then go to playback devices. pick HDMI and click "set as default". then pick ok. oh wait. what os are you running? those were steps for win7. (but should work for vista too i think)

I'm actually on XP. So yeah. Bit lost with this whole thing but the community for the dell is alot better than I was lead to believe. I was made to think that only the MSI & the EEE had decent modding/enthusiast communities.

I ordered my Mini10, it will arrive soon. But I was wondering if it will have a "real" HDMI connector or an "HDMI Mini" ?
Just to know if I have to order an extra cable or not.

To get back on topic: What's the use of an HDMI-connection without audio, so I assume it's probably just a setting.

Edit:

Just had to change the sound properties under the control panel and do a restart. I tried without a restart and that's where my problem was lol.
