Default Video STILL Choppy - 03-14-2009, 05:45 AM

First... I did search.

My streaming video is choppy on every site, but Hulu is the site I care about.
1) Not playing hi-res videos
2) 2 GB Ram w/ 16 GB
3) Win XP
4) Let videos buffer to 100%
5) Upgraded bios to A04
6) Have latest flash and Shockwave player
7) Even turned my video settings down to 16 bit from 32 bit
8) I'm 99% sure my bandwidth is fine as every other PC in the house streams no problem

I'm at a loss... so many people say that Hulu plays "smoothly" for them.

What have I missed?

I am not an expert here but I will share what I have different on my machine. Well, I disabled page file in Windows.
I am not saying it will help, but worth considering.

I'm desparate... I WANT to keep this Mini, but Hulu was one of the key reasons that allowed me to justify the purchase. What does page file do anyway?

I'm also was using FireFox Portable installed on the SSD, I'm switching to a regular FireFox install. Maybe the Portable version was causing lagging too?

I'll report back to the results.

Thanks for the response,

I recently had a lot of trouble with Hulu and other video sites. I thought I had done everything there was to do to ensure smooth video, but then I realized my Java updaters had stopped working (probably because of my security software). I updated my Java, and everything was fine after that.

Just a thought...to add to your list of things to try.

Thanks for the idea, but I'm at version 6 update 12... according to the sun site, that's the latest.

I've disabled page file, switched from portable Firefox to regular Firefox and Java is current. The only other thing it could be is my anti virus software. I'm using NIS 2009. I thought that would be OK since it is "liter" than previous versions and heard others here give it their blessing.

Maybe I'm expecting too much for "smooth" playback. It is almost unwatchable at full screen lo-res).

<sigh> I'd hate to send this back...

I was having problems with hulu yesterday, then I read a post on here where someone said try plugging it in to allow the processor to chugg at full speed. So I did and videos instantly became smooth again.

My trouble seems everyday. I let the Hulu buffer to 100% and immediately it starts to get choppy (again this is at standard definition with a right click on the video and quality set to low.

By "...try plugging it in..." do mean an Ethernet cable? That improved processor speed?
