Default Login User and Password - 03-11-2009, 12:28 PM

Greetings,

I have a new Mini and when it boots, it asks for a user and password. I have both, but
would like to remove them. When I do, they magically reappear.

System>Administration>Users and Groups allows me to delete, but again, it comes right back.
I would like to sell this mini, and get rid of my User Name and Password. I've tried using Terminal
but since I am logged on, it won't get rid of either logon name or password. TIA

You need to have at least one administrative user. So create a new one with no password, log into that and then delete your old one.

I can't....New Admin requires a password. If I leave it blank: Password is too short, must be at least 6 characters

easy solution........create easy password and give to new user. Some examples: changeme, password, etc
hardER solutution...Go into the registry and change the password requirements so you don't need a password.

I've created Administrative users without a password before. Hmm.

Since you are prob running WinXP Home and then obviously not part of a domain, this should work for you.....

--------------------

You can configure Windows XP to automate the logon process if your computer is not part of a domain.

1.
Click Start, click Run, and type control userpasswords2.

2.
Clear the Users must enter a username and password to use this computer check box.

3.
Click Apply.

4.
Enter the user name and password you wish to automatically log on with, and then click OK.

5.
Click OK again and you're all done.

Hope that helps....

Sorry, I should have mentioned in my OP that the Mini has the shipping version of Ubuntu.

Since it appears to be impossible to create an Admin without a password, I am going to take the suggestion of creating a password that the new owner can change...something like....password
