Default Playing AVI files. - 03-08-2009, 08:27 PM

Hi.. New Dell Mini 9 owner.. I have was wondering if anyone could give me a little gouge on playing an avi file on my dell mini 9. I have an archos 604 that I take on the road with me in which I have hundreds of movies that I have ripped from my dvd's...they are in the avi format.. When I try playing one on my dell mini 9, it says that windows media player doesn't recognize the format..Any words of wisdom??

Okay, well first of all, AVI isn't a format, it's a container. Any number of codecs can be used inside of it.

But, I'd say with 99% certainty that if you install ffdshow-tryouts, it'll play in Media Player. Especially if it's the very common xvid video and mp3 audio or ac3 audio type of DVD rip that you... made.

It takes 14 MB of drive space. As for whether using it uses lots of resources, well that depends on what videos you're playing. The higher the bitrate, the harder it is to decode, which uses more CPU.
