Did you install any of the Dell drivers? Do you have another computer that you can download them from the Internet? Otherwise they're on the grey DVD that shipped with the system.

If you have another PC, you can just go to support.dell.com and start downloading drivers.

Inspiron 910 (aka Mini 9):

I tried that earlier, I think there were 23 drivers in all. i put them all in a list and staryed downloading them and it gave an estimate time for downloading of 1hour 34 minutes .Im on a 2 meg BB connection. This sounded a way too big so i cancelled it. Is that what u suggest i do? Thanks for your help

Some of that is optional. I believe there are only ten that are required for XP:

Chipset R192574.exe
Ethernet/LAN R197393.exe
Wireless/WLAN R197390.exe
Video R192572.exe
Audio R197392.exe
Battery Meter R192569.exe
Wireless Switch R192570.exe
Bluetooth R197396.exe
Card Reader R200081.exe
Touchpad R192597.exe

(These filenames are from a month or two ago, there may be updated versions on Dell's site.)

If you can locate these R****** files off the grey DVD, you can get them from there.

Something to consider...Just download the network drivers from your BB connection. After that you can install them on your mini, connect to the internet from your best possible connection, then download the rest of the drivers. That should get you up and going without an hour and a half wait time.

I reinstalled XP from CD last weekend because my mini was hanging. you need to install the drivers. I got them from the CD (bought external DVD drive from BestBuy). After you install the resource manager, it will show you what hardware it recognized on your mini and you can select which drivers you want to install. I have not had any experience with that but it was easy
I noticed it boots and runs faster now after - I did not install everything
could you let me know how did you get XP from flash? I was also considering loading linux
