Hello, I just signed up here over the weekend. Last week I ordered a mini-910 which should be here tomorrow and started looking around online for some general information and user experiences while I wait. I saw that, when it comes to osx86 (or any other OS for that matter), you have the option of either installing from a USB thumb drive or from an external dvd/cd drive. The biggest thumb drive that I own is only 4Gb and don't really feel like spending any cash for more or less, a one time use.
Then I started wondering if I could use an old (usb) external hard drive enclosure with a IDE dvd/cd rom drive. Obviously I'd have to disassemble it, but I don't see why it wouldn't work as long as it's an IDE drive. Has anyone ever tried doing this? Any luck? The only problem that I can foresee is if it has some sort of built in firmware, opposed to it reading the device ID.
