Go browse the For Sale section of this forum. Lots of people who have upgraded their 16GB systems to larger RunCore SSDs have offered to sell their smaller SSDs.

I once installed XP onto a 2gig HDD that was in a very old P-1 133Mhz. CPU with 128Mb of RAM notebook. It ran very slowly and took like 5 minutes to boot up BUT it worked (although very slowly) and ran all default applications and programs. I won a $20 bet by doing this then I re-installed 98SE into it after wiping the HDD with WipeDrive by White Canyon. A week or so later I sold it for $40 and even upgraded the RAM to 256Mb and the HDD to a full 4gigs. The buyer was quite happy with it until a month later when it crashed because Microsoft stopped support for 98 a year before that. Told him to buy a 20gig HDD and a copy of XP home and Id be happy to install it for him. Never heard from him again. Ya get what you pay for.

You might wanna do some searching for Windows XP ESSENTIAL 2. It's a very small install and is fast. The .iso it self fits on a cd but I can't give you the exact space needed for the install.

Well, I have an nLite XP SP2 installed on my 4GB mini that I got from the outlet. The OS is taking about 3 GB of the drive. With OpenOffice installed, I have about 500-600 MB of free space.
But it still runs great, especially, after I replaced the stock 512MB memory with a Kingston 2GB memory.
More than enough if your wife would be just surfing the web. An SD or SDHC may be useful for music listening.
But I try to save the space on my SDHC by using online radio stations through WinAmp.

I am thinking of upgrading my SDD only because I need (or want 8-) ) more than surfing web and listening to music.

I use an NLited version of XP Pro SP3 on an old EEE PC 701 with a 4GB SSD and 2 GB of ram. The install is less than 2G on the hard drive and I install programs to an SD card. I'm running Office 2007 on the SD card and it works fine. With 2 GB of ram I can turn off the page-file, giving me plenty of room with XP.

If you follow one of the nlite guides for the eeepc, you can get the install down to about 600 mb with all updates. makes it really easy to dual boot win7 and XP on my 32 GB Runcore

XP Pro SP3 with the page file turned off will require about 650Mb. Works beautifully on an EEE Pc running 2GB ram and a Celeron M processor only running at 650mhz. The Mini 9 should run perfecctly at 900mhz.
