Default "unread mail messages" - 01-26-2009, 05:26 PM

I'm using a mini 9 with 2Gb RAM and Xp Home. I use MS Outlook 2007 as my email client. When I log on to the mini the log on screen tells me I have unread mail messages - even though I don't! I've tried marking all as unread and then as read. It's an annoying niggle!

You may want to open Outlook Express (even if you don't use it) and see if there's one there. See http://www.outlook-tips.net/howto/winxp_unread.htm

Easier, use TweakUI to remove it.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have now inhibited windows from telling me about my mail. But... the real problem was that it thought I had unread mail, when I didn't - i.e. the system wasn't registering that I'd read it. I could try the usual route when all else fails, remove and reinstall Outlook!

Do I need to download TweakUI, or simply type it in the run box?

Buying my Mini 9 has helped me learn more about Windows than years of using it on bigger machines!

Thanks again.

You would need to download/install it. LINK The download link is part-ways down the right side of the page.

A litte OT, but TweakUI is also how to remove the Recycle Bin from the desktop if you are going for the "icon free" look!

I also use TweakUI to remove the shortcut prefix "Shortcut to..." so when shortcust are created, they have the same name as the file, but just with the little arrow to indicate it's a shortcut. TweakUI is very powerful and handy! Play around with it to see what you can do!

I have successfully downloaded and installed TweakUI - thanks for the pointer. Now everything seems to be OK.

I know I'm too late, but I had the same problem and it was mail in my junk folder. Even if I read it, it would stay listed as new. Just posted this in case anyone has this problem.
