Default Hello, I am new... - 09-17-2012, 12:14 PM

Hi all,
I can honestly say I will be hammering the forum from now on.
I have just won a 1012 on ebay which I am going to use as a "project" after finishing building my desktop and having itchy fingers.

Hoping to get it and do some minor bits i.e upgrade RAM and swap HDD out for an SSD.
Not sure which OS to use yet though, I have W7 and W8 available currently but like the idea of running OSX as well.

No idea on the condition of the netbook yet but either way if it needs some TLC it will get that in the shape of shiny new parts.

Will probably end of installing some vehicle diagnostiv software as well as I do some mechanical bits in spare time as well.

Look forward to pestering you all soon

Steve

OSX does not really run too well on the 1012 I believe it has to do with the graphics processor (GMA 3100), better off with a 1011

you can check this thread though

Linux is my next option, I have been playing with it on my spare PC here. Bit of a noob with it so gone for straight up Ubuntu, when the 1012 arrives I'm going to try it out I think.

Ok had my 1012 running a few days now. 7 just works for me, I've been running Ubuntu aswell but it seems to hammer the CPU and it seems to get very hot (almost as if its 100%) all the time.

I've ordered a 2gb stick of ram which has arrived and I'm just waiting for my SSD arriving now as well
