Default Charging battery for first time - 01-21-2009, 05:59 PM

Hello everybody, this is my first post in this f-orum, hope is the first of many.
I've just bought a Dell Mini 9, Ubuntu version 8gb SSD with 4-cells battery (seems to be 24,4 W/h version).
I've plugged AC adaptor in order to switch on the computer and to charge the battery. Obviously, the computer is working (i'm writing with it) but the battery seems not to be charging. It's been plugged for half an hour now , and Ubuntu says it's 0% charged. I've tried to restart without the ac adaptor, and it doesn't turn on.
Does it take long time to charge and , so that, it's 0% yet, or may there be any problem?
Thanks for your time, and sorry for my English

This seems to be a common problem. Since you're using Ubuntu, turn off "Airplane Mode". (Don't ask me how to do that, but a search on the forum should bring it up.)

Thanks for answering, but Airplane mode was off.
I think is solved now, because it's 1% chargede and says that will be charged in 2 hours and a half. I suppose I get a little nervous very soon, it's just that it takes its time to start charging.
Thanks again

I just got my mini today, and experienced the same thing. It isn't just an Ubuntu thing because mine came with XP. I was getting worried, but then it started charging after a few hours.

Weird.

Anyone thought about *gasp* turning it off and letting it charge? I mean are we children who can't wait an hour or two? (Of course it's culturally acceptable, even expected to be completely lacking in patience so I can't level the complaint against any individual.) I'd say that would probably let it get settled in peace.

You're probably watching it calibrate itself. Or something *shrug*
