Default Installing Mac OS X - 06-14-2011, 05:54 AM

Hello, I'm not sure if this is the right...category?, but anyway, I'm trying to install Snow Leopard on my PC, a Dell Inspiron 1521, and I've gotten as far as to where I should be able to simply install the OS to a new hard drive, however, every time I choose an option from a screen that gives me the option to either..
>Boot
>Boot verbose
>Boot ignore caches
>Boot Single User
>Memory info
>Video info
>Help

My computer always restarts and nothing gets installed, I'm not sure exactly how my BIOS is supposed to be set up, so I think that this is where the problem is. If anyone knows what I have to do, could you please tell me? <3
Thanks for the help

this is a Dell Mini forum which basically just deals with the Mini Netbooks and I think that question would be better answered on a Dell Laptop forum (there are many), I dont know how many answers you will get here, but good luck to ya anyway

as I said before this is a Dell Mini forum and your question might be better asked on a Dell Laptop forum.......and there is a section here on OSX for the Dell Mini 10v and Mini 9 which are the only 2 Minis that will run OSX

http://www.mydellmini.com/forum/mac-os-x/

you may search through that section but I still think you are better off on a forum for Laptops and not one for Minis (Netbooks)

The BIOSes vary considerably among models - the netbook BIOSes have fewer options than the larger notebooks. I have not seen a menu such as you describe on a Dell Mini.

I will comment that the menu you describe does not look like a BIOS menu to me but rather that of an OS, though I don't recognize it.

That's not the BIOS menu options, those are the options I get BEFORE actually installing OSX. The problem is that I don't know how the BIOS is supposed to be set up, to allow OSX to be installed.

Dear sir/madam...I dont believe that there is anything special that needs to be done....but there are different BIOS's between the Minis and Laptops as Steve has told you already above, Laptops have more configiuration than Minis, like I said now for the 3rd time, you would be better off on a Laptop forum not here, this is a Netbook forum (MyDellMini) and you dont have a netbook...just because its a Dell doesnt mean anything, Dell makes Desktops too and they dont belong here either...sorry

As far as the BIOS goes, you simply want to be able to boot from whatever USB device you are using (DVD or flash drive). Each BIOS is a bit different in this. On the Minis, one needs to enable "Legacy USB" in order to boot from USB. You probably also have a BIOS option to present a menu where you can select which device to boot from.

@TheBeanMachine....its not any trouble all I was trying to say was that this is a Mini forum and your might get more accurate and precise results on a Dell Laptop site, some here MIGHT have the same Laptop...but basically this forum focus's on the Mini's and you might not get as many or the correct responses as you might get...that's all.....if ya ever get a Mini (they are really cool..ya should think about it), we could probably solve most if not all of your issues then......Good Luck to ya though

PS. IF you do ever decide to get a Mini I suggest that you look in the 'For Sale" section here on the forum and look for a Mini 10v as where it seems as though you are interested in the MAC OSX type OS and that is the best model that is the easiest to 'Hackintosh' and there is A LOT of help/guides/people here to get you through it
