Default Windows 7 Starter - How is it? - 02-12-2011, 09:29 PM

I don't plan on using my new Mini 10 for much. Just ordered it, should be here this week. But how is Win 7 Starter? I've used Win 7 Home Premium and Professional extensively, but never Starter. I know it's a bit limited, but how limited?

I plan on using mine for web browsing, maybe some YouTube, occasionally a ripped movie, and also some older gaming (Warcraft III, Rogue Spear) or basic games like card games (poker, hearts). I bought a 32GB Corsair Nova SSD I got cheap, because I don't plan on storing much on it.

But really would like to know what limitations I will have in doing any of those things. The one thing I know is that you can't change the background. Not a huge deal and from what I've read so far there are some workarounds to that too.

Thanks.

This page has a good comparison.

Thanks, but I guess I was hoping to get feedback from users who have used it extensively.

The feature differences are really all there is to it. Windows 7, in daily use, is Windows 7.

I use Win 7 all the time on my dell mini 1012 and aside from it reboots on it's own when it's in sleep mode. I haven't noticed a problem. I may have to create restore disks, as the problem started when I installed Kbuntu side by side to Windows.

So you used Windows 7 Starter that came with the machine?

I have used it quite a lot and I have & Ultimate on another box. The only differences that really made a hoot to me were the fact that you can not have your own desktop pic, you can not watch TV with it and there is no DVD player in Windows Media Player. Three things that are really not a big deal to me. Other than that like someone else said, 7 is 7......

Well, I ended up putting Home Premium on it anyhow, thanks though for your input.
