Default Is Dell "friendly" regarding returns? - 02-06-2011, 12:43 AM

I'm stuck between getting the Inspiron Duo and one of Dell's notebooks.
If it were Walmart, Sears, or even Amazon, I know that I could confidently purchase both, try them out, make a decision, keep one, and send one back.

I've read a few horror stories regarding Dell's inconsistent return policies.

Can anyone share any advice or their own experience here?

Default Dell Returns - 02-07-2011, 12:46 PM

Just returned a Vostro 1014, I bought it from the outlet. I admit I was amazed I got through so quickly, was only handed off to another person once. Liz handled the return efficiently and quickly, on the phone with Dell for less than 5 minutes. Liz promised to have my PayPal refund in less than 10 days, actually had my refund in 2 days. very good experience.

Great news... may I ask the reason for the return? I'm wondering if "I wasn't happy with it" is sufficient nowadays...

I think you have 21 days you can return it for any reason, I returned a TV that died, but it died, so they were real good with accepting the return. I've never had to return anything else from them though so I don't know. I am wishing I would have gone with the 15R instead of the mini 1012 though, but I'll just deal with it, no biggie, it's gonna be better with the upgrade on memory when I get around to doing that.

Mini 1012 / 2 GB RAM / 250 GB HDD / 1366x768 HD screen / 1.3M Pixel Webcam / HB95.11N / Win 7 Starter / 6-cell 56WHr / Black & Ice Blue / Gear Head CF3000U Dual-Cool USB Laptop Cooling Fan / Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 4000 in Blue
Dell Inspiron 17R 2nd Gen I-5 / 4 GB RAM / 300 GB HDD / 1600 x 900 LED Display with True Life / 1.0MP Integrated 1280x720 native HD Webcam / Win 7 / 6-cell 48WHr / Black / Gear Head CF3000U Dual-Cool USB Laptop Cooling Fan

Default Dell Returns - 02-09-2011, 12:34 AM

I wanted a matte finish screen not the glossy screen, also when the lid was closed it stayed up about 1/8". But as Pamster said in the 21 day period, as I understand you can return if you're not happy with your purchase. I am not sure about return postage, Dell paid for it in my case.

Awesome... glad to know they're understanding. Went with the Duo, hoping it's everything they say it is. Really wanting it to be a KEEPER.

That is one thing I've liked about Dell. Never had a problem returning or exchanging laptops or PC's. HP is about as good.

Mini 1012 "Booger" : 10.1" 1366x768 | N450 | 2GB | 80GB Intel X25-M | Win 7 HP

any forums on dell streak 5... pocketbles, streaksmart, etc. search those with phone issues. Some people get instant assistance. Others are left on hold for hours, some are asked to send the phone in, others are granted instant replacement phones, etc Not ALL horror stories, but very inconsistent, not always seem to be based on the issue, but dependent on the rep taking the call.
