Question Finding FILE, EDIT, VIEW, TOOLS, etc., on Windows 7 starter, please? - 12-24-2010, 04:08 PM

Hi, total newbie here. So glad to have found you guys!

Just got my Dell Inspiron Mini 1012 and I *think* I will like it. But I have so many questions!

I have no experience with this Windows 7 Starter, and I would like to know how to change the view to show the menu buttons: FILE, EDIT, VIEW, TOOLS, etc.

I am not very tech-savvy, so please feel free to explain in dummy terms!

THANK YOU!

Just a test post to see if my signature shows up? Thank you.

---------- Post added at 01:10 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:05 PM ----------

OK, confused by this forum's software???!

I posted a reply to your question, but now it's gone?

Anyway, by "what program?" do you mean what BROWSER? Because after I posted my question above, I downloaded Firefox (because it is usually my preferred browser), and lo and behold, to my surprise, the FILE, EDIT, VIEW, TOOLS, etc., buttons were there.

So perhaps it's an IE issue? How would I make those buttons available on IE?

Many thanks!

I understand the question. Tiskers is probably used to Windows XP, where a Windows Explorer (folder listing) had a series of menus you could pick from. Windows 7 does it a bit differently, and I don't know of a way to switch back to the XP model.

Some of the items can be found under "Organize", some can be found in the "More Options" dropdown at the right of the toolbar. Some things are visible only when you have a file or folder selected, and a right click on those items will bring up a context menu with more options.

stay with Firefox, you are better off with that anyway...I wouldnt use anything else but Firefox (Netscape has been taken away)....IE stinks....I wish I could delete it...but sometimes it screws up other stuff because some sites automatically default to IE links...

Default Thanks! - 12-24-2010, 08:05 PM

Thanks for the replies. Yes, Steve, I am used to XP. This "Starter 7" is a whole new world!!! GAH!

I do plan to stay mostly with Firefox... so as long as I am using that I'm good.

Thanks again!

Lynn

IE 8 is ok, though personally I prefer Firefox. Windows 7 does take a bit of getting used to for an XP user, but after a while you'll be fine.
