Default New Dell Mini 10... nice but some problems - 11-22-2010, 04:10 PM

I just got a new Dell Mini 10 through work.

Right away there was some issue with some unrecognized USB device. I called Dell and spent 2 precious hours (saturday) and they were unable to figure it out.

There also seems to be an issue with the 'Realtek' card reader. It doesn't.

I'm amazed how clueless Dell support is... This poor person was on some kind of discovery mission trying to figure out what was in my machine.

We went to the support web site. The system 'scanned' my service tag.. and a different laptop came up (i kid you not). I hand entered the one on the bottom and then it found it.

The first thing we checked was the BIOS.. My version was A10. The web site said the latest version was A4. Under each section there were several choices - as to what hardware I "might" have installed... like this is something I would know... or care about.

The only thing the nice (Indian) person could recommend is that I do a system restore back to factory specs (this system was unchanged)... anyway I did that.... to no avail.

Eventually I disabled the offending USB device and it went away quietly into a corner and died.. I hope.

Anyway... My question was... about the GPS. The reviews I read about re: the Dell Mini said that it came with some "turn by turn" navigation software included. Has that been discontinued? I cannot find hide nor hair of it. I would really like some turn by turn software if anyone could recommend.

Aside from my initial stumbling blocks.. I do think the machine is quite nice... it has incredibly long battery, and is quite snappy. However... if I can't figure out the card reader issue... it will be going to the island of misfit toys.

Thanks in advance.
Sam

the drivers for the 1010 should work..what OS are you on?

PS. you should update your signature so people know what you have or you will be answering these questions over and over again.....use mine as an example...granted mine is a little extensive but you will get the idea, look around the board and check some others..
