Default What Dell Mini should I buy? - 10-27-2010, 03:54 PM

Hello all,

I'm new to the forum. I am excited about getting a Dell Mini 10. I especially want to get one with a GPS chip. I have been up to the Dell site (for like an hour?) and for the life of me I cannot figure out what model/options I need to select to get the built in GPS.

What I don't want is 3G or any cell service and the monthly charges that would ensue. I know that GPS does not require cell phone service (but you never know these days).

Thanks in advance,
Sam

I would call Dell and speak to a human ......get the 1012, its the best available currently or wait for the Dell Duo which is gonna be a Netbook/Tablet with a flip-flop monitor, it flips around to become a tablet and flips the other way to be a Netbook, nobody has real specs yet but supposed to be out towards the end of the year

PS. Welcome to the forum....

When I got my 1010 in July 09 I called Dell and spoke to someone (in the US..had to try a few times but finally got someone) and spec'd it out EXACTLY the way I wanted it.....didnt really care about the price just wanted what I wanted...read my sig below...all I did was pop out the tiny 160gb and put in the 750gb...well I kinda put in a 500gb the first time then upgraded to a 750gb and I use the 500gb as an external backup drive. I dont think I would have gotten GPS even if it was available, cant picture my Mini sitting on the front seat and definately NOT on my dashboard.....I got a TOM TOM which works well, the Netbook at least for me is not for car usage..what happens when you stop short.....BANG..there goes a lot of money on the floor..although there was a guy on the forum here that just rotated the screen 180 degrees and mounted it on the roof of his minivan, if I remember right it was a Mini 9 he did it with

Ha .. that is quite an impressive list of attributes for a 10 inch notebook.

Personally I'm looking for something to replace my mobile device.. which I am thoroughly sick of.... sick of smudgy little screens with no keys, data plans.. blah blah.

.. but there are some things I do like about them..

.. the fact that they do turn on instantly .. (which I believe the "instant on" feature has got covered)
.. the fact that they tell me when I have an email, notification, etc (which I know is not happening.. and why I still need some email device).

.. and last but not least.. the mobile device's GPS which has gotten my lost sorry @ss out of a couple bad moments. .. which is what has brought me to the Dell Mini. I can read here and there that its available... but not easy to find up on the Dell "pick yer puter" site.
