Matujaz, welcome to the forum.

Does the sound itself not work, or is it just that the icon in the task bar disappears? What happens if you uninstall Nero?

you dont need to uninstall Nero, but Nero tends to load a few background processes during start up, you may want to go into startup manager and disable all Nero Programs from starting then reboot and see if the sound stays on, you say it is on for a while, most likely it is on and something in Nero shuts it down or something....disable all Nero programs from starting then reboot

PS. Nero 10 is the latest version maybe that version works better, I have Nero 10 installed in Win 7 Ultimate and have no issues, but I also have all Nero processes disabled during startup

I suggested uninstalling Nero to see if that restores the sound. If it doesn't, then it can be reinstalled. This was meant as a diagnostic technique, not a permanent solution. I do agree that Nero 8 is out of date, but it should still work.
