Default 2GB Ram - 09-18-2010, 07:16 AM

I have a Dell Inspiron Mini 10 [as best I can tell it is jut a 10 - not a v or 1010, or 1011, or 1012]. Paperwork says it can support 2 GB of RAM, but it looks like it may not easy to replace the 1GB with a 2GB. In reading some comments it seems impossible to very difficult to not so difficult. I have worked on computers a few times, not a pro by any means, but would like a site reference or help on doing this tedious project. Can anyone give me some help?

You have either a 1010 or a 1012. If it is a 1010, then upgrading the RAM is effectively not possible as it requires buying a daughtercard with a new CPU and RAM from Dell - the cost is more than the cost of the netbook. If it is a 1012, then upgrading the RAM is trivial.

Look at the label on the bottom of the unit to see which you have.

Thank you for a response! Back of my computer just says Mini 10, but it ise likely a 1010. I am in Afghanistan, but will going home on R&R soon, and I was hoping to upgrade the computer then, but it does not seem possible without a lot of work. It's near impossible to call Dell from here, but I will try when I get back to the states. I guess they may be able to tell me something by the tag number, but I was really hoping to get this thing upgraded to 2GB of Ram. If you know a site to refer to in purching the needed materials and some guidelines on how to actually replace some parts as to upgrade I would appreciate it. Thanks!

Does the Mini have an HDMI video port or a VGA port? If HDMI, it's the 1010 and you are SOL.

Look more carefully at the Dell label on the bottom. It should say "Inspiron 1010" or the like. If you can't figure it out, send me a Private Message with the service tag and I'll look it up for you.

If you have a 1012 then all you need is a DDR2 200-pin SODIMM laptop memory card rated at 667MHz (PC2-5300) or faster.
