Default Will the Mini 10 do.... - 09-14-2010, 12:36 AM

I currently own an iMac which I use for my part-time photography business. I will soon be traveling to do some photography and would like to purchase a netbook that can run Photoshop CS5 while I am away from my home. I am interested in the mini 10 with the tv tuner as I would also like to use the netbook to watch tv when I am at home.

I know next to nothing about the inner operations of a computer and have no idea whether the netbook's processor will work for such a hog as Photoshop. In addition, is it worth getting this netbook just b/c it comes with the tv tuner option or should I just go with a different computer and add an external tuner. Thanks for your help in advance!

I hate to be the bearor of info, but with limited knowledge of computer inner workings, you'll have a tuff row to hoe. Really things like, mistakenly updating, or surge, or defrag mistake will leave you stuck. If you want a hobby, get a 10V not mini 10. The 10V will at least give photoshop a chance. No video acceleration so NO quartz lock with other mini 10's, unless you use photoshop in Windows.

the GMA500 graphics processor is better than the GMA945 in the 10v and is known for better streaming and flash.... also the 10v is NOT available with the HD 1366x768 screen or the TV Tuner and if you want to run photoshop you will want the better graphics, but on the otherhand the 10v is upgradable to 2gb of RAM where as the Mini 10 is not.....so photoshop will not run as well

I dunno which "10" that the OP is referring to, but the current 1012 has most of the options of the early 1010 (HD screen, TV tuner, etc), without the shortcomings (mostly slow CPUs, fixed RAM, slow IO). And the HD screen on the 1012 comes with the Broadcom video decoder card. So, you should have similar video decode ability (or better?). That said, even a fully upgraded 1012 may struggle with current versions of Photoshop. But I don't use it myself.

I'm not sure if the OP wants to run OSX on his netbook. OSX won't run as well on the 1012 as on the earlier 10v/1011, which doesn't have some of the options mentioned. But the 10v/1011 should be able to run Photoshop similarly to the 1012 (except for screen res, which may be a deal-breaker).

being was where the OP mentioned the Mini 10 with the TV tuner I assumed (silly me) that they meant the Mini 10 (1010) not the 10v...oh well...what ever
