Default Mini 9 w/o Bluetooth - Easy to add/install? - 01-09-2009, 04:41 AM

I am thinking about getting a mini 9 from the outlet. It appears the most of the black linux versions do not have bluetooth. How difficult would it be to add a bluetooth chip to it?

You could just get a tiny bluetooth USB dongle to save any internal wiring.

Dell has started selling the bluetooth modules through the parts and accessories. It runs 19.95 from what I hear, and comes with the cable and everything to install it yourself. It's covered under a 90 day waranty and also covered under your system waranty.

Installing the part is pretty simple, took me about 10 min. looking at the diagrams of the system break down. Isn't hard at all.

Others from the forum have successfully ordered from Dell to get this part. I on the other hand have been stuck with the opposite. I've used Dell chat twice (don't feel like getting my call transfered to India or somewhere else), and have been told 1) that the part is unavailable with no ETA and 2) that the bluetooth module was "only available during point of sale" and they suggested an external usb BT module. Needless to say both times I said thank you and promptly ended the chat. I guess I'll keep trying until someone actually knows how to order this part at Dell.

Third time's a charm. Finally got through to a sales rep (Iris) who was able to actually order my part. It should ship by the 19th and hopefully be here soon. Just keep trying the Dell chat.

I finally got mine. Install was pretty easy; the hardest part was finding a good screw driver  The only part I was worried about was prying up the palm rest, just start in the corners and take your time. Easy as pie. BTW the BT module comes with the screws you need to mount it... no need to order those separately, which I almost did.
