I am using a USB card reader for my camera sbhc (class 6, 4gb, delkin). The computer recognizes it but not as photographs. I've tried it on 3 separate occasions. Today I went to mypictures and the wizard did not recognize it as a camera - it opened the place where I could take a picture with the computer's built in camera.

However, when I open photoshop elements in the organizer and ask it to download photographs from the camera it works fine.

I can do that - through elements, but I'm wondering i something else seems to be missing. I am LOW tech and used to the far more intuitive process of using my mac so I need some help here. I searched the forum and discovered that I probably need a driver. I went to the driver page, put in my service tag and got a lot of greek-to-me data about available recommended drivers. How do I know what to download? (I am using a 10v with xp.)

It doesn't sound like any drivers are missing to me. It just sounds like XP isn't clever as OSX, since it's not showing a link to the card in the "My Pictures" directory.

You probably can create a "shortcut" to the card reader (E:, G:, whatever the drive letter is) in "My Pics" to get the result you desire.

The simplest way to create the shortcut is probably to right-click and drag the "drive" to the "My Pics" dir. Then pick the appropriate choice from the menu that pops up.

what format are the pictures in jpg? or something else

They are raw (.nef) files. Maybe that's why only PSE can figure them out. I guess I must have my preferences set on the mac to have Bridge pull them in automatically. I'll go back to the Organizer preferences and see if that's the issue. Thanks for bringing up that point.

can you maybe set the camera to save in jpeg or jpg (samething) format....9 out of 10 programs will display jpgs with no problem at all...

could, don't want to. I like the flexibility that comes with shooting raw. I think I've got it worked out now.... Patience, patience - I'm learning.
