Default Upgrading RAM in my Dell Mini 9 - 04-21-2010, 04:08 PM

I've had my Dell Mini 9 for about 6 months and I've been really happy with it - however, I've decided to put Windows 7 on it as i fancy a look at this OS and have read that it goes pretty well on the mini 9.

Before i do it, i want to upgrade the RAM and have read 2 really good guides on here that detail how to do it.

However, i'm a bit confused by what type of memory to use. One of the guides is for a Mini 10, so i'm not sure if the memory described will be OK in a mini 9.

The other guide is a couple of years old and says that the memory should cost about £20. I can't find any anywhere near this price... more like double that cost - I'm guessing that this means i am probably looking at the wrong stuff.

Has anyone who has done this recently point me in the direction of the memory they used? UK?

Cheers

the memory you need is PC2-4200 (DDR2-533) 200pin or higher, if you do buy faster than 533mhz it will still run at 533mhz, you should be able to find it in the UK easily...also what size SSD is in the system?, you might want to think about upgrading that as well....

PS. Welcome to the forum...

PSS. Just keep in mind that more expensive memory doesnt mean better...the cheaper ones work just as well

Guide: this is probably the guide you mentioned but just in case here it is

RAM price has gone up quite a bit since those posts were written. The 10v and 9 take the same kind of RAM but the 9 is MUCH easier to upgrade.

Factories going offline or changing product mix, shift to DDR3, etc. Happens all the time with older memory technologies.
