Default Blackra1n on mini 10v - 02-21-2010, 02:26 PM

I have an iPhone 3GS I jailbroke using blackra1n software running on a Macbook Pro. If the phone crashes, you need to run blackra1n on it again to get it out of restore mode. I'd like to purchase a Dell mini to carry with me so that in the event that the phone crashes or battery dies I'll have a way to fix my phone, plus it'd be nice having an extra computer. My question, though, is: Does it matter whether blackra1n is run from OS X or Windows? I like OS X better, but if anyone has tried jailbreaking from OS X using blackra1n, I'd like to know if you can run a fix on your phone from blackra1n on Windows.

No need to have a tethered jailbreak I think. I have both mini and 3G, pwnage and blacksn0w(instead of ra!n) worked very well.

If you have a recently made iPhone 3GS, tethered jailbreak is the only option. If blackra1n is your choice, it supposedly works in both OS X and Windows, so pick whichever you like.

I use PwnageTool under OS X (indeed, this is what prompted me to install OS X on my Mini), but I have an early 3GS.

I get confused with all these similar sounding programs... isn't there also one called 'RedSnow'?

That's "redsn0w" - got to learn the hacker leet-speak. Yes, the names are all confusingly similar, partly by design. Here's a good description of redsn0w and how it differs from blackra1n.

Thanks for the link Steve... I will read it in more detail later.

I think I will play safe though, and keep my iPhone 'in jail' for the time being... mind you I haven't actually received it yet, as it is due to be delivered tomorrow!

I am hoping it will make a good 'companion' for my hackintoshed Mini 10v.

Agreed. I don't think I could go back to a non-jail broken iPhone. Stock I phones are WAY to restricted.
