Default New 10v w/ Windows 7 - 12-02-2009, 06:11 PM

Hi everyone,

I ordered a 10V on black Friday and it will come with Windows 7 installed. Can I keep Windows 7 on it and install OSX SL on top of it or will I need a formatted/blank HD?

Thanks,
Andy

I'm not sure there is a successful tutorial for installing SL after a Win7 install. You'd probably need to format/blank the drive, install SL, then add Win7 afterwards in a dual-boot set up.

That's what I was thinking. I am a rookie and not 100% sure I can make it work.

What about unboxing my new 10V, taking out the HD and installing a new one and then starting the Hackintosh process. That would keep my Windows 7 HD fully functional in case I brick the install of SL. Or is that a waste on money?

Thanks,
Andy

You could make a "system image" of the Windows 7 install (not sure if all editions will do that) on an external USB hard disk (needs to be NTFS formatted), then no matter what happens you can boot the Windows 7 DVD and do a restore. Personally, I wouldn't bother with a second disk, though that's less expensive on the 10v than on the 9.

Good idea, I might try the install that way and see if I can achieve a dual boot Hackintosh.

Thanks

It certainly can be done - I've done it as have many others. But it seems starting with the OS X install works best.
