Default noob Qs re windows 7 - 10-18-2009, 01:43 PM

hi!

was able to download windows 7 RC a few months back (have an activation key too) but didnt get the chance to install it on my A90 yet.

now that windows 7 is gonna be released next week, i have a few questions:

* if i install windows 7 RC on my mini, when will it expire?
* how does the RC differ from the RTM?
* where can i get the RTM version?
* how does the RTM differ from the one that is gonna be released next week?

thanks in advance!! c",)

the RTM version is the version that is released to manus to pre-install, its also available on a MS technet subscription, I have about 5 legit copies set up and running already.

the RC has expired, and AFAIK will shut down your computer every 2 hours if installed.

The RC will continue to work fine until March, at which point it will do the every two hour shutdown thing. RTM is newer than the RC.

If you have the RC and a key, you can use it for a few months, but it is not the same as the final retail version.

The RC is supposed to last until June/July 2010 before it begins the shutdown/2hr cycle.

The RC starts doing the two-hour shutdown March 1 and stops working completely on June 1. See http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/get/faq.aspx

The RTM version is exactly like a retail version. It does not expire. However, be sure that what you get is legitimate, as Microsoft has been known to disable illegal copies.
