Default Dell logo carved into lid...thoughts on filling it? - 10-11-2009, 03:28 AM

I tried to apply an apple logo decal over the Dell one. unfortunately the Dell logo appeared through the Apple logo. This is because the Dell Logo is 'carved' into the lid and there is not a flat surface.

Any suggestions to 'putty' over the Dell logo, both inside and under the lcd?

Is there a plastic type putty that could be use that would work to fill in the logos prior to applying the decals??

Thanks for your suggestions!

It wouldn't look right. You'd still see the putty or whatever you use through the standard apple decal. Unless you plan on removing the lid and painting it you have two options:

1. Get a solid skin such as this one here. You can request it without the "Dell" cutout.

2. Get some black vinyl from a craft shop and cut a circle the size of the dell logo, stick it on and cover it, then put the apple decal on top of that. That's how I have mine setup right now until my skin in #1 above arrives. Some might tell you to use two apple decals on top of each other, but for the life of me I don't know how they would ensure that it lined up perfectly. Also the standard apple decals that I have, has a clear border that extends out about 1/8" around the apple which looks like crap IMO.

So black dell mini 10.....

I want to putty over the dell logos to smooth out the surface before applying an apple logo sticker that is solid silver in color or white.

If white, I would use some sort of a white putty.

Thoughts...suggestions??

Anyone sell an apple logo sticker that is thick enough??

The 9/12 don't have the engraving, I have to say it looks much better with it.

some people don't have the money for a macbook. Duhhh!!! They also might want the portability of a netbook that apple doesn't offer.

Just go to an auto parts store and buy some Bondo and sandpaper.

I have to admit I also don't understand this desire to hide that one bought a Dell and make it look as if it were an Apple product. I think it extremely clever that one can run Mac OS on a Dell and that would be something interesting in and of itself.

That said, the skin I bought from 3acp.com is thick enough that it completely obscures the Dell logo on the lid. The pattern is abstract art, not pretending to be something else.

It's an homage to Apple!

At the same time, it's a "ORLY Mr Jobs? No demand for a 10" Macbook Mini? That's not the impression I get from people who've seen how well this baby works! If you won't make one for me, then dammit, I'll just build it myself!"

Besides, the Dell branding is.... meh, Apple branding is noice.

So why give Apple credit for it?
