Default webcam driver - 10-09-2009, 01:58 PM

sorry if i'm asking something that has already been asked before but i've read quite a few posts to no avail. i recently installed windows 7 and after installing dell webcam manager i cant seem to get it running. it says no compatible driver found and that i should install the webcam driver. the webcam software says no webcam central software installed. i've tried everything i can think of. can any1 tell me what to do or where to get the dell webcam central software?

The driver will come from Windows Update. You don't need the Dell Webcam Central software unless you specifically want to use it.

See Windows 7 - Ultimate Drivers list and installation for a list of drivers if you want to manually install. Keep in mind that the webcams for the different Mini models are not all the same.

Solve the driver problem and the software should take care of itself.

My mini-10 came with a CD-ROM called "Webcam Central Software" P/N NP3MF Rev. A00 July 2009
I have never used this CD
When I wiped my drive and reinstalled win-xp, I just used the following from Dell drivers page:
Creative Labs Integrated Camera v.V1.04.01.0708 A05
This driver is only 4.57mb
The CD is a full 124mb - why so much bloat?
Is there really that much difference?

I usually only install minimal software if I can get by with it.

The Dell Webcam Central software is not a driver. It is a web chat application and is entirely optional.
