Default About to purchase a Mini 10v! - 09-20-2009, 11:12 AM

I will be purchasing a Dell Mini 10v later on tonight with the N280 processor and the 6 cell battery for $354 shipped. Anyone have a coupon code? Also wanted to know how long does the 6 cell battery actually last for compared to the 3 cell? And does anyone have a picture of the 6 cell so I can get an idea of how much more the battery "extends" the notebook?

I was also interested in possibly doing a 2gb ram conversion. Never have done a ram conversion before, hoping someone on here could link me a how to guide. Also was interested in maybe converting to OS X, haven't read any information about it but it would be something I would like to try out eventually. Just not sure if it would be worth it or not. Hoping you guys could clue me in.

Thanks in advance! Will be posting lots more to get the most out of my Mini!

I also ordered my 10v a few days ago, and to be honest,
I answered all question u asked by myself in less then half an hour by looking through this forum.

6 cell battery: Mini 10v extended battery closeup on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

3 cell about 2 - 2,5hours, 6 cell 5+ hours

Changing ram results in a nearby complete disassemble.
Seach on Youtube, there are some very good clips about it.

So far I have noticed that. Silly me. But one question I can't answer myself is whether the Intel Atom Processor Z530 (1.6GHz/533MHz FSB/512K Cache) is a faster processor than the IntelĀ® Atom ProcessorĀ® N280 (1.66GHz/667MHz FSB/512K cache) ??

And is the accelerator 500 better than the 950?

I think the 10 is more powerful with the 500 and the Z530.

But the 10v is a) cheaper and b) compatible to OS X.

What's so great about Windows?

I'm a Macuser since years, and the only reason I ordered a 10v is, that it's no problem to run OS X on it...

Comparing performance on the two systems is tricky. The N280/N270 processor on the 10v is itself faster than the Z530 in the 10. The GMA500 graphics processor in the 10 is, theoretically, better than the GMA950 in the 10v, but that potential has not been fully realized in the drivers. Practically speaking, the overall performance will be similar, what you'll notice is that some graphics-intensive applications may perform differently on the two systems. And, of course, the 10v can run OS X and the 10 cannot, if that's important to you.

I'm always amused by the "fanbois" who tout their favored OS as the only one worth using. Each OS has its advantages and disadvantages - pick the one that best suits your needs and wants.

I'm probably only going to be using the mini for school work purposes only. Going to end up taking my mini to class and using it to type out all my notes on and to store all my writing and power point assignments on. And of course, the typical web browsing every now and then.

I have an inspirion 1501 (using right now) that I'll be using for everything else. But the reason I ask which processor and graphics card is better is because I noticed I could get the Mini 10, just refurbished, for the same price as the 10v...

How much space does the leopard take up if I were to go with the OS X? Can't decide whether to go with the 160gb HD or the 16GB SDD? and whats the difference between 1397 and 1510 wifi?
