Question Need quick advice on DELAYED Dell machines please. - 08-27-2009, 04:35 PM

I have ordered several mini 9's for my kids.
They are now delayed at least another two weeks. So I am looking for opinions on other options. I may just cancel the order and buy locally.

I want to run OSX on them for sure, so easier the better. The essential 100% supported hardware on the mini 9 was the reason I was wanting them. Though, the small screen ( issues with Photobooth etc... screen size ) was a concern.

Opinions/experience please.
Will a Mini 10 work as well hardware wise with OSX? Are the same screen size issues present? Do the built in cams/mic work as well?

Or should I be looking at something else?

Would really appreciate the opinions/experience.

I have a 10v with OSX on it. It works fine, but the screen resolution is the same as that of the Mini 9, so it has the same issues with photobooth and other applications that are too large vertically. I don't think OSX is compatible with the Mini 10 due to the GMA 500.

No issues with the cam or anything? Sleep functions?
I thought there were less issues on the mini 9 vs the 10V?

If the 10V is just as easy and has no more issues with OSX I will just get them.
IS that the case?

Thanks!

They won't deliver them in under 4-6 weeks, at the very least. If you're in any sort of a hurry (i.e., if you'd EVER like to have something for your kids, ever), I'd strongly recommend cancelling.

I haven't had any issues. Sleep, sound, the camera, all of it works quite well on my Mini. I used this guide:

Fool Proof No Hassle Mini 10v Install EVERYTHING WORKS!!

I'm updated to 10.5.7, and things have been running quite smoothly. I regularly use Office for Mac for schoolwork and whatnot, and it'll even play WoW, which impressed me.

^It took me two weeks to receive my Mini 10v(Ordered 30 July, received 14 August). I'm sorry that you've had so many delays, though.

If you do consider switching to a 10v (and assuming Dell will co-operate here!) they do seem to be turning these round a lot quicker at the moment... one purchaser on here received a call to arrange delivery less than a week after placing his order.

LOL... ROFLMAO

So, you just finally got your Minis and you are hoping to just unbox them and get Snow Leopard installed (when SL was just released today and has nothing close to a guide for installing it on a Dell Mini).

Hopefully you meant Leopard, because you will have a heck of a time with Snow Leopard! I have not heard of any recent advancements in getting Snow Leopard loaded. For the time being it can simply boot to the install disk (using NetbookInstaller) and it will then hang at some point later in the process.

No, I am putting Leopard on there. I mean that I am hoping SL is supported soon.
