I have just bought Dell Mini 9. I need to mainly use it for word processing while overseas:writing/accessing files.Will Open Office take up too much memory? I would rather have Microssoft word but have read it will take too much memory also. Any ideas? What would be best please?

I actually have both installed with no problem on space. I added an 8 gig SD card.

I have O.O 3 and Office enterprise 2007 installed

Abiword is a nice, lightweight, cross platform word processor with Word compatibility, give it a shot:

I prefer it to most others I've tried, but haven't used it in years, as I don't have much need for it these days.

just get a class 6 SDHC card and you'll be all set. Im running ofice 2007 from it and it runs perfect

question...did you install Office 2007 onto the SD card? I've been just using the MS Works that came with the Mini, but I may try installing Office 2007 on the SD card.

My Office 2007 is on my SD card and it runs great.

I'm also running MS Office 2007 from an SDHC card with great results. Another approach, however, is to consider using Thinkfree. This is a complete MS Office compatible suite that has a netbook version with a small footprint ($49) as well as an online version (free). It also utilizes cloud storage of your files which would also save you space assuming you have wifi access when you require it.
