9.04 will fit with no problems on an 8 GB drive. I use it daily on a 4 GB drive.

Newsgroups? Really? Like honest to goodness NNTP newsgroups? I haven't seen one of those in years. Thunderbird supports newsgroup reading.

Default Installing Ubuntu Remix - 07-31-2009, 12:44 PM

Well , I've formatted a USB Drive to Fat32, I've downloaded the 'Ubuntu Netbook Remix' and put it onto the USB drive via the Disk Imager.

What next, will I have to assign one of the USB ports as a 'boot port' so that the software boots from the USB Drive at start up ?.

I guess I will need to do that!.

Any help would be appreciated at this point !

Thanks

Stick you drive in any of the available ports and reboot the machine. Press F2 (i believe) when you see the Dell logo when it first starts up so you can change the boot order. A screen will pop up showing you a boot list - move USB to the top of the list.

Let the computer boot from the drive. When it prompts you - tell it you want to boot into Ubuntu (don't install). This will boot the machine into Ubuntu from the flash drive so you can test it out without actually installing it to make sure you like it and does what you want it to. If you don't like it, simply turn the computer off!

If you do like it there is a "Install" icon on the desktop. Click the icon and follow the instructions on the screen!
