Pentium Dual-Core SU4100
Core 2 Duo SU7300
The SU4100 is an excellent CPU - I've run mine pretty hard in my Inspiron 11z. From what I can see there are two main reasons to get the C2D over the Pentium.
1) VT-X. I can run VT-x accelerated VMs on the C2D. Can't on the Pentium.
2) L2 Cache. The Pentium runs 2MB of L2 while the C2D sports 3MB.
The VT-x is not really a big draw for most users unless they are running Win7 Pro or Ultimate and want or need XP Mode, or for folks like me who tinker with other OSes but don't want to dual-boot. It's a plus for me, but XP mode requires Win7 Pro or better - I'll just end up using VirtualBox probably.
The L2 cache difference doesn't make a huge dent in Passmark scores, but games and multimedia benefits quite a bit from additional processor cache. It leads to more responsive behavior when working under a higher load of math and other calculation functions.
Here is the Passmark comparison for reference:
Not a huge performance difference. 2.47% give or take.
But the Core 2 will handle games better due the additional L2 cache.
Now in response to your power/battery question, the Core2 and the Pentium have the same TDP: 10w. So all other things being equal, battery life should be very similar between both CPUs.
