Default Adding Verizon Broadband to a Mini 10? - 06-05-2009, 12:23 AM

I recently purchased a Mini 10 for my wife and when I was configuring the order, like a dummy I thought she would never be interested in the integrated Verizon Broadband option. Yep you guessed it, the first thing out of her mouth when she fired up her shinny new Mini was “does this have built in broadband?” So my question is can I add it after the fact and if so where can I get the hardware and instructions to install it? Thank you for your help.

Haha good luck. I called Dell to ask the same thing for my mini 9. I got like 4 people who spoke in some foreign dialect and when I finally reached an american call center the girl didn't even know what I was talking about. I don't think they'll just sell it because that would entail soldering, and connecting stuff which will void warranty.

Thanks, I know exactly what you mean. Dell's support staff are clueless.

i'm fixing to try a mod to put my external internal....if your willing to take the chance, you can do some research and see if you can find a mod that will give you the results your looking for. i would think a possible mod would be like the one done for a at and t card on jkkmobile under 'adding wireless, the easy way' only using one of these;
MC5720 - Sierra Wireless Mini-PCI Express Verizon Air Card - recent-items

verizon should just need the numbers off the card?

but alas, i haven't found allot of people who have done this for verizon - so we'll see how i come out. just some links to check out, good luck!

believe this was the link

Guys, check out a new device called "MiFi 2200." It changes the entire paradigm for
broadband. No more bending ourselves out of shape to install 3G modems. Instead,
one small device which can be used with ANY laptop, netbook, or other computer you own.

^that is awesome, though it doesn't seem to go internal itself- which is what i want, total internal mobility in this single computer with nothing else to carry around.

-but it really does open up a ton of other options, as you said....should be interesting. thanks for bringing notice to it.

Default How about external express card solution? - 01-15-2010, 09:04 PM

How about this twist? I have an ExpressCard 3G that I'm using with my MacBookPro. I have a dongle that connects an expresscard to a USB port, so I can connect it to my Mini 10v (running Leopard). But it finds the card for about a second and then drops it again.

Anyone have any experience with a setup like this?

^it may need more voltage?
hopefully someone with more knowledge will know.

i did the mod i talked about in this thread a long time ago and it still works great....memory serves me i had to scratch into a higher volt inside the computer on the mother board to power it?
though it was a usb powered device originally so maybe my theory on mine is wrong....though it could still stand true on yours.

can you google and find out what voltage your device needs/gets from its normal install location and what you are getting out of a usb power?

Default Not a power problem - 01-31-2010, 03:54 PM

Thanks for the advice. But the device draws 500mA on my MacbookPro, and I discover that it draws the same from the powered USB port on the Mini.

The Option software cycles over and over again: Card initialising. Searching for network. Card removed. (although I didn't physically remove it). Then it immediately starts again: initializing, searching, removed.

Anyone else have any luck with this?
